Birth Planning Consultations

This is a great option for those looking for information and guidance on their journey but not sure about having a doula at their birth. Get coffee with Shannon and pick her brain for two hours, talk about your expectations, ask questions and prepare for an experience you will carry with you throughout life. You will get a kit designed to help you be confident in your choices, know what to anticipate, and help you evaluate your expectations for your birth!

Childbirth Education

This unique childbirth class combines all the practical aspects of childbirth! A quality, evidence based and holistic childbirth education course that will prepare you for your labor and birth. Become informed about your body, your birth, and caring for your baby. The workshops are offered privately to couples or in group settings.  Private classes are offered over a period of 6 weeks with families meeting for 2 hours each week.  The group classes are offered by Shannon in Lincoln, IL as 2 day intensives equaling 12 instructional hours (9am-4:30pm, two consecutive Saturdays).

Preparing For Birth

Preparing for Birth is a three week class hosted at the Bloomington Birth Center and taught by our very own Jessica. The class covers common childbirth education topics including the stages of labor, comfort measures, interventions, postpartum recovery, newborn care and the basics of breastfeeding. Time is set aside to discuss birth preferences and fears with your partner, practice comfort measures and breastfeeding basics so you are equipped with knowledge and tools for your birth.

Birth Doulas

Each member of Doulas Etc. offers support as a birth doula. You can get a feel for our personalities and experience on our About Page and set up a coffee date to ask questions in person. Picking the right doula really comes down to comfort and fit, deciding who you would be most comfortable with during such an intimate time. Know that we all serve our clients in a similar way. After your consult we meet for two prenatal visits to discuss your options for birth, outline your research in a birth plan and practice comfort measures. Your doula is then on-call for you by 38 weeks until baby arrives and will join you in active labor to provide continuous support for you and your partner. We will stay with you during the "golden hour" and help you establish breastfeeding then schedule a postpartum house visit to process your birth experience!

Birth Photography and Video

Welcoming your child into the world can be a wonderful experience. Surrounded by mystery, emotion, love, eagerness and bliss; afterwards it can be difficult to remember the details. Jessica offers birth photography as an add-on service to doula clients or can focus solely on capturing your experience and creating a birth video of your birth!

Placenta Encapsulation

Mothers who encapsulate their placenta report a more positive and healthier postpartum! Capsules have been reported to help naturally balance hormones, increase milk production, replenish lost iron, stabilize your mood and assist in preventing baby blues. Doulas Etc. has an APPA certified encapsulation specialist who serves mothers across Central IL. You can contact Shannon directly or fill out our contact form to see who has availability open near your due date.
